AUGUST 2019 Street portrait CAMDEN
“This guy is Michael”, says Stephanie Griffiths. “He lives in the same building as me. I asked him if he’s up for me to take his picture and we grabbed this chair and little statue and ran to Camden High Street. The statue is from my living room, he cheers me up every day.”
Stephanie came to London from north Wales 40 years ago to study animation. “I split up with my ex and moved from one place to another.” She was sofa surfing for two months after her landlord evicted her flat in Kentish Town. One Housing offered a place in their Camden Town hostel. “I thought because of who I am – transgender – it could be difficult.” However Stephanie says she has had no problems at all and has now lived there for two years.
Her passion is to write. “I have written six scripts. Toilet humour. Dinner party entertainment, with shadow puppets.” [154 words]
